Plans for December 6 CCMG Christmas Party

Hey, everybody!

This month's meeting was small but lively. We had a general discussion of gardening issues--pests (living and nonliving), pest control (cats rock!), bees, their role and their prognosis for survival, cool plant adaptations . . . you name it, we hit it. It was fun.

We discussed the December meeting that is to be held in Catlettsburg on Saturday, December 6 at the Boyd County Extension Office. We need an RSVP from you by December 1st in order to prepare! Those who know where the office is can meet there in Catlettsburg on December 6 at 11:00 a.m.; those who would like to caravan will need to be at Enslow Park Presbyterian Church in order to depart at 10:30 a.m.

Please let us know how many (including yourself and an adult guest) will be coming. Please bring a side dish that will be sufficient to serve 6 to 8 people. If you'd like to make a wreath, Lori Bowling will have the materials there. Wreaths will be $10.00 each--some people have made two in the past, so if you'd like to do that, just bring twenty bucks. :-)

There will be door prizes as usual. Lori said she'd be happy to do an artificial wreath-making demo for us as well, which is awesome. If we can learn to make nice wreaths from something other than evergreen cuttings, we can sell them at the Wild Ramp in different seasons to continue that project and fundraiser. We're also planning to make a few extra wreaths to take to the Ramp that week as previews of our wreath-making demo the following weekend.

Speaking of the Wild Ramp wreath-making project, it's moving right along! Here's a request from that project group for all of you. Is anyone planning to trim up their evergreens now? The wreath-makers would love to have things like fresh holly cuttings with berries on them and limbs with pine cones. If you're planning to do any pruning, wait (if you can) for just a bit longer and either bring those cuttings with you on December 6 or bring them to the Wild Ramp the morning of December 13. Those would be most appreciated!

That event is already being advertised by the Ramp as a demonstration, and a number of their Facebook followers are already planning to attend. Hopefully we can use this as an excellent opportunity to tell people more about the Cabell County Master Gardeners program. MGITs, remember that you need 30 volunteer hours by May 1, 2015, so if you'd like to participate in this project, please contact us ASAP and we'll add you to the roster.

Our last bit of EXCELLENT news is that we now appear to have nominees for all the officer positions for the next term. Woohoo! This is a great load off our minds, and I think the group that's coming in is going to do a *fabulous* job over the next couple of years. Let's all plan to pitch in and help make it the best experience we possibly can for them!

Again, please RSVP to ccmgemail@gmail.com absolutely no later than December 1 for the December 6 meeting/party! Hope to see everyone there. :-)

Take care everybody,

Wendy

November CCMG Meeting

Hey, gang!

One more reminder that we're having our monthly meeting tomorrow evening (Tuesday, November 11) at the Enslow Park Presbyterian Church location. We'll be there at 6:30 p.m.

Would love to see as many of you as possible. In particular, those of you who are planning to participate in the wreath-making project at the Wild Ramp need to be able to put your heads together and finalize the details! If any of you can't make it, we can dial you in on speaker phone if you'd like--but it's going to be super important to get the details nailed down right away.

We are still looking for someone to fill the position of President for the next term. Without a full complement of officers, our organization will not be able to continue in its present form. I swear it doesn't take up your entire life! LOL

Please consider a nomination for an office. Rich will be at tomorrow's meeting to help clarify any details.

Hope to see you tomorrow evening!

Wendy
